The Luna-FL™ is a dual fluorescence automated cell counter. It is a quantum leap for automated cell counting and cell viability analysis. The Luna-FL™ automated cell counter gives you the sensitive and accurate live/dead cell counting results without limitation of sample types.
Accurate cell counting performance

The precision two-color fluorescence microscope optics, high resolution CCD imager and the new software algorithm were carefully integrated to achieve excellent cell counting accuracy. Within a 5×104 ~ 1×107 cells/ml concentration and 1 ~ 90 ㎛ cell diameter range, Luna™ software accurately detects live/dead cells, and discriminates cell debris. Individual cells in cell clusters are also successfully counted by Luna’s new de-clustering algorithm.

Two-color fluorescence viability assay of primary cells
It is difficult to count primary cells such as PBMC, splenocytes, neutrophiles, and stem cells with the conventional cell counters such as Coulter counter or image-based automated cell counters utilizing only bright field optics. This is partly due the fact that primary cells are often contaminated with the undesirable debris which can be mis-recognized as cells with the conventional cell counters. Luna-FL™ is integrated with the dual fluorescene microscope optics to overcome this problem. Live/dead cells are stained with the green/red fluorescence dye (Acridine Orange / Propidium Iodide (AO/PI) cell viability kit, LGBD10012), and the fluorescence labled cell images are analyzed with the accurate image analysis software. GFP Transfection Assay and Yeast Viability Assay
Luna-FL can be used to to measure GFP expression. Luna-FL calculates concentrations of total and GFP positive cells. It also provides average cell sizes and the GFP fluorescence intensity can be visualized/quantified on a histogram.
In addition to the AO/PI viability kit, A FDA/PI kit (LGBD10013) is also developed to measure yeast cell viability. The kit contains Fluorescein Diacetate (FDA), a plasma membrane permeable precursor of fluorescein. Once FDA enters live cells, it is converted into fluorescein by cellular esterase and is trapped in the live cells.

Minimal Counting Cost
Automated cell counters utilize disposable counting slides to eliminate washing steps of manual cell counting with glass hemocytometer.
Logos Biosystems has developed innovative T-Bond™ technology (patent-pending) to manufacture the precision cell counting slides more efficiently. The unit price of slide is almost half of the other brands, saving significant consumable costs for heavy users.
Interactive and Intuitive Software Interface
- Powerful On-board Analysis: After the cell counting operation is performed, integrated analysis software immediate reports viability data. For validation purpose, living cells are conveniently circled in green and dead cells in red.
- Image Overlay. The analysed images from each channel (bright field, green and red channel) can be merged directly on the screen. the brightness of each color can be adjusted independently for the accurate monitoring. Images can then be saved to the USB drive for storage, transfer, or future analysis.
- Cell Size Gating. Counted cells can be gated based on the cell size information. Using the histogram that displays live and dead cell population, you can easily exclude or include the particles by simple dragging.
- Data report. The analyzed data can be easily saved as a PDF report or .CSV file. Cell counting results, cell image data, and a various types of histograms are integrated into a single PDF file and transferred via a USB drive.
